SURG 106 - Surgical Technology Clinical I 3 Credit Hours
This course is designed to provide the student with introduction to the operating room and its routines, and to the practice of surgical technology within the clinical setting. This course functions to expand knowledge gained in the Introduction to Surgical Technology and Principles and Practice of Surgical Technology courses, and support the knowledge being gained in the Surgical Procedures I course. Students begin their supervised clinical rotations, with focus on applying the fundamental concepts and principles necessary for successful participation on a surgical team in the first and second scrub roles, as identified in the current edition of the Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology’s surgical rotation ase requirements. Upon completion of this course, the student will demonstrate understanding in the cognitive, psychomotor and affective learning domains related to principles and practice of surgical technology as outlined in the current edition of the Core Curriculum for Surgical Technology, Association of Surgical Technologists, as indicated by their weekly clinical evaluations, surgical case attainment and course requirements.
