DMS 205 - OB/GYN Sonography II


3 Credit Hours

This course builds upon the skills and knowledge developed in DMS 120. Students will be instructed in the recognition of abnormalities and pathology of second and third-trimester obstetric exams, including genetic abnormalities and syndromes and postpartum complications. Interventional and advanced ultrasound imaging procedures and protocols will be covered.  Instruction in evaluation of the neonatal head, neonatal spine, and pediatric hip will also be introduced. Students will continue to expand their knowledge of protocol modification based on ultrasound exam findings and pertinent health history. This course includes a laboratory component where students will become proficient in the scanning techniques and protocols of the ultrasound exams related to the systems covered. 

Prerequisites: Students must have successfully completed DMS 100 - Intro to Diagnostic Med Sonography , DMS 105 - Sono Principles & Instrument I , DMS 110 - Sono Principles & Instrument II , DMS 115 - Abdominal Sonography I , DMS 120 - OB/GYN Sonography I , DMS 135 - Sonography Clinical Practice I , and DMS 225 Vascular Ultrasound  or program director approval to enroll.
Corequisites: DMS 201 - Abdominal Sonography II  and DMS 215 - Sonography Clinical Practice II , unless otherwise approved by the program director.
