This entry-level driver training (ELDT) program meets the regulations set forth by the United States Department of Transportation Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The program requires a theory course and a behind-the-wheel course that includes hands-on driving on an instructional range and on public roads. Students will have up to 40 hours of driving time in the program. Students must complete both courses within one year of each other.

Students must complete a program application and be accepted into the program before enrolling in CDL courses. To be accepted into the program, students must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid Kansas driver’s license (for at least one year). Students must meet drug/alcohol and physical standards as defined by the Department of Transportation, meet residency requirements, have a strong command of the English language, meet motor vehicle record requirements, among other application qualifications.

Students are encouraged to read the FMCSA regulations in 49 CFR https://www.fmcsa.dot.gov/regulations.
