DMS 100 - Introduction to Diagnostic Medical Sonography 2 Credit Hours
This course provides a basic understanding of the field of diagnostic medical sonography. The course will cover the history of medical ultrasound, the role of the diagnostic medical sonographer, related medical terminology, and a comparison of sonography to other imaging disciplines. Students will be introduced to sonography equipment, body imaging, and the importance of ergonomic scanning techniques. Additional topics include professionalism, communication in the healthcare setting, patient care, infection control, medical ethics, legal issues, scope of practice, certification, and accreditation.
